New York has enough superheroes right now so Kelly Thompson (‘Hawkeye’,’Rogue & Gambit’) has shared that she is reassembling the ‘West Coast Avengers’ with art by Stefano Caselli! The ‘West Coast Avengers’ has been missing since the ’80s and supervillains are taking notice, likely wondering why so many are just hanging out in New York still.

While the initial team was formed by Clint Barton’s Hawkeye, we’ll see the Kate Bishop version joining in this time. There will be some heavy hitters with Quentin Quire, and America Chavez involved while Gwenpool is joining in to provide humor. The team will also be founded out by Kate’s current boyfriend Johnny who going to be “way over his head” when they have to actually get together to fight crime.

As to why this particular team is coming together?

“They all need and want something from being on that team together. Kate needs to help save LA, and she needs help to do that because villains have taken notice that there are no Super Heroes out there. I think there’s part of her that misses [being on a team] too. She’s been doing her own thing, on her own, and that’s cool. But she was the one, who, with no powers, was like ‘I’m leading the Young Avengers, I’m the boss.’”

We’ve seen the two Hawkeyes team up before and while Clint will be “trying to help Kate” he also “doesn’t want to admit how much it’s fun for him to mentor.” After what he did to Bruce Banner, I’m sure anything that can provide fun in his life will help the guilt he has been feeling.

The interesting choice though there will be American Chavez who is a bit out of the rest of the members league regarding powers and Thompson agrees stating that:

“I think America is the biggest question mark, and I think that’s something we’re excited to explore: Why does she come back to LA? Why does she come back to be with Kate? Does she miss [the group dynamic] too? Because America, she likes to play things a little close to the vest.”

The team will live together as the 80s team did but not in a Tony Stark purchased pad so to pull it off they also have to be involved in a reality TV show. One of the last times we had what looked to be a fun group of heroes involved in a reality show was the six-issue mini-series of ‘New Warriors’ that ended in tragedy and sparked Marvel’s first “Civil War” story arc, so that is something to keep in mind as well.
