The fairy tale may be over for Josh Dallas‘ Prince Charming on the long-running ABC hit ‘Once Upon A Time’ which is wrapping up after seven seasons.  But the actor won’t be idle for long.  NBC has ordered his new series ‘Manifest’ for its upcoming fall season.  The series is described as a “character-driven, high-concept mystery thriller” and has been compared to ‘Lost’.

Here is a description of the show’s premise:

“A plane disappears from radar and returns years later after being untraceable and presumed lost at sea. No time has passed for those aboard the plane, but for their loved ones at home, years have gone by. The series follows the passengers’ personal lives as well as the larger mystery and purpose that is their destiny.”

Dallas portrays lead character Ben Stone, an “intelligence analyst” who suddenly discovers a mysterious voice inside his head, after returning from… where ever.  (Something tells me that, ‘Lost’-style, viewers won’t find out where the plane went until the show ends.)  On a personal level, he must grapple with a mysterious cancer that has afflicted his son Cal, played by newcomer Jack Messina.  Melissa Roxburgh (‘Valor’) stars as Ben’s sister Michaela, a police officer whose life takes on a strange new purpose.  Athena Karkanis (‘Zoo’) plays Grace Stone… presumably, Ben’s wife and Cal’s mother, while Luna Blaise (‘Fresh Off the Boat’) plays Olive Stone, who would appear to be their daughter.  The cast also includes J.R. Ramirez and Parveen Kaur.

The pilot was directed by David Frankel (‘Marley & Me’, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’) and was written by Jeff Rake (‘The Mysteries of Laura’, ‘The Tomorrow People’).  Rake will also serve as executive producer, along with Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke.

‘Manifest’ is the sixth new series that NBC has ordered for its upcoming fall season, following medical drama ‘New Amsterdam’, ‘The Enemy Within’, ‘The Village’ and comedies ‘I Feel Bad’ and ‘Abby’s’.
