Jurassic World 3

2018 is a big year for ‘Jurassic Park’. Not only does it mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the original film’s release, it also sees the release of the fifth film in the storied franchise, ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’. ‘Fallen Kingdom’ is still about a month away from its theatrical premiere, but with the year being as big as it is, it seems only right that we’re already getting our first hints and teases of what to expect from ‘Jurassic World 3’.

Those early teases have thus far all come from Colin Trevorrow, who has served as a guiding creative force for the ‘Jurassic World’ trilogy. After directing ‘Jurassic World’ and co-writing ‘Fallen Kingdom’, Trevorrow is returning to the director’s chair for the third installment. The once and future director has previously intimated that ‘Jurassic World 3’ will be a “science thriller” in the vein of the original ‘Jurassic Park’ (further characterizing ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Fallen Kingdom’ respectively as an “action adventure” and a “horror suspense film”). And now his latest likewise evokes a return to the style of the first film.

Unlike the original ‘Jurassic Park’ trilogy, the ‘Jurassic World’ films thus far have been distinguished by their inclusion of (and interest in) genetically engineered hybrid dinosaurs. This was on full display in ‘Jurassic World’ with the Indominus Rex, and we now know that ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ will similarly feature an all-new hybrid dubbed the Indoraptor. ‘Jurassic World 3’, however, will be moving away from that. As Trevorrow explained while speaking to Total Film:

“I’m looking forward to, in the third film, getting a little back into the paleontological, wild animal, true dinosaur nature of all of it.”

‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ is helmed by J.A. Bayona and features returning stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum alongside newcomers James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Toby Jones, Daniella Pineda, and Rafe Spall. The film is set to arrive in theaters on June 22, 2018.

‘Jurassic World 3’ is currently slated for release on June 11, 2021.
