ridley scott xenomorphs

Last heard, Ridley Scott wanted to finish killing off the Alien franchise by taking the focus off Xenomorphs in exchange for his obsession with artificial intelligence previously stating that they should “drift away from the alien stuff” Now, it appears that the famed director might be backing off from this position.

I’m sure the rather public outcry of audiences had nothing to do with this.

Part of the history of the Xenomorph played into this as it had all evolved out of the iconic designs of HR Giger:

“In my career, which has been pretty long, there’s only been, with the greatest respect for the people I’ve worked with, two real, real originals. Funnily enough, I came across a guy called HR Giger and if I hadn’t got that monster, you would not have had that movie. I saw the drawing – the drawing was drawn for the book, not the film – and I was so kind of taken, I flew to Switzerland where he lived because he didn’t want to get the plane as he was scared of flying.”

As to the importance of Xenomorphs i the films so far?

“It wouldn’t have been the same movie. Whilst the cast was wonderful, with Sigourney [Weaver] and Harry [Dean Stanton] and those people, but without that eighth passenger, it wouldn’t have been the same film. What I’m trying to say is that there are rarities, there are those [ideas] that occur once in a while, not that often, but when they do grab them and hang on to them.”

With fans and likely the studio against the idea of not using the Xenomorphs as the main form of fear in these movies, it looks as if Scott is second guessing his original decision. While Fassbender’s David has fans, a full-on Xenomorph movie would be the right way to not only continue the series but find a way to give that particular AI some sort of resolution as well.

Would you be willing to see another Ridley Scott Alien movie if the Xenomorphs were back in full force? Do you think that the director can return this iconic horror monster to the glory it deserves or is it just time to pass the franchise to someone else? Share your thoughts below!
