While I’m going to be the first to jump on the bandwagon that ‘Deadpool 2‘ is going to be an amazingly fun movie, creator Rob Liefeld has even higher hopes for the film. He believes that the film, including X-Force can “absolutely” go up against Marvel Studios’ Avengers at the box office. However, it isn’t clear if he believes that for the upcoming film or where they could take ‘X-Force’ assuming Disney doesn’t break up the team when the Fox buyout officially goes through.

Here is what Liefeld had to say about the subject:

“Well, this version, yes. I’m confident about the X-Force — that it’s an R-rated Avengers in the making. You can see where Fox is building up a roster that rivals what happened over with the Avengers. They built up piece by piece this impressive group of personalities, and actors, and talent that people just responded to. So I’m obviously at a disadvantage. I’ve seen more than the average Joe has seen, but I see how well it clicks, and I think that when you throw the R-rating in there, the X-Force can absolutely rival the Avengers. X-Force is not family friendly, and that matters, too. I definitely do see them building their version of the Avengers with this.”

While I genuinely believe that ‘X-Force’ as shown here could do amazing at the box office, it’ll be tough to see it keeping up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when you cut out the younger crowd from the equation. While it still looks like Drew Goddard’s ‘X-Force’ movie is on track after the merger, it could be the last time this team is seen in live-action in the foreseeable future.

There are ways to either keep anything introduced in the ‘Deadpool’ movies in their own pocket universe but with reality warping powers there could just as easily be a way to include them in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Once there, it isn’t at all clear what could happen to the Merc with the Mouth’s team.

Do you feel that ‘X-Force’ could truly pull in the same kind of ticket sales as the ‘Avengers’ films? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
