Jurassic World 3

Life finds a way. And so, it seems, do film franchises. And when ‘Jurassic Park’ came (pardon the expression) roaring back to life with 2015’s ‘Jurassic World‘, it was with the intent of crafting a trilogy of films. We’ll be getting part two of that trilogy this summer, with the release of ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘, but that’s hasn’t stopped the series’ once and future director Colin Trevorrow from giving us our first hint of what to expect from ‘Jurassic World 3.’

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Trevorrow gets perhaps the most obvious question out of the way first: Why is he returning to the director’s chair after sitting out the sequel? While the fact that his exit from ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ no doubt opened up his schedule a bit, it ultimately comes down to a higher power. I’m referring, of course, to Steven Spielberg. According to Trevorrow, the auteur asked him to take the helm, and as the director puts it, “when he asks you, what can I tell you, man?”

In addition to his duties behind the camera, Trevorrow is also co-writing the script (with ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ scribe Emily Carmichael). Though he didn’t let any plot details slip, he did confirm that ‘Jurassic World 3’ will once again feature Owen and Claire, played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, in addition to unspecified characters who will be making their debut in ‘Fallen Kingdom’. Trevorrow also offered fans a broad sense of what sort of film to expect when they buy their tickets for the third installment:

“If I could contextualize each film, I would say ‘Jurassic World’ was an action adventure, ‘Fallen Kingdom’ is kind of a horror suspense film, and ‘Jurassic World 3’ will be a science thriller in the same way that ‘Jurassic Park’ was.”

‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ is helmed by J.A. Bayona and features returning stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum alongside newcomers James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Toby Jones, Daniella Pineda, and Rafe Spall. The film is set to arrive in theaters on June 22, 2018.

‘Jurassic World 3’ is currently slated for release on June 11, 2021.
