While you would think that Wauconda, IL might be the perfect place by The Windy City to host the first ever ‘WakandaCon’ the event is scheduled to take place in Chicago itself! This event is being billed as “a first of its kind” that is set to celebrate both “Afro-futurism, tech, and entertainment” and “black superheroes in film, gaming, television, and comic books.” Not too many details are out about this celebration of ‘Black Panther‘ inspired panels which has been founded by David, Ali, and Matt Barthwell who live in Chicago with producers Lisa Beasley and Taylor Witten on board.
Those in charge “wanted a space to gather and talk about everything African-Americans are passionate about” and feel that they can do that with WakandaCon! The event is “for black people to look past the present and into our future.”
Some of the details which have been released shared that the Con will have “educational and entertaining programming” and “a marketplace for African-American small business owners.” There aren’t any significant details on special guests at this time, but it will take place from August 3rd to August 5th, 2018 at the Hilton Chicago.
All of the details for this Fall’s event can be located at WakandaCon2018.com as they become available.
One can hope that a few stars of the film will end up as featured guests as well as some of the names behind creating the iconic comics that inspired it all. With everything kicking off this Fall, I’m sure we’ll have plenty of the panels being announced in the near future.
If you can’t be in the area during the event but are dying to see what it will all be about, there is also a digital pass available which will allow for live streaming of key events from the convention!
