John Cena Knight Rider

John Cena became one of the biggest stars in the WWE since his debut in 2002, but in 2015 he crossed over big time into the world of film, especially raunchy adult comedies, beginning with Amy Schumer’s ‘Trainwreck’.  He followed that up appearing opposite Amy Pohler and Tina Fey in ‘Sisters’, and Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in ‘Daddy’s Home’ and ‘Daddy’s Home 2’.  It was just confirmed that he would be tackling the lead role in the video game adaptation ‘Duke Nukem’.  But last summer, we learned that he was attached to the big screen reboot of classic eighties adventure series ‘Knight Rider’.   While promoting his latest movie, ‘Blockers’, he responded to inquiries about the state of the TV adaptation.

Unfortunately, things don’t look great for this project.  Reportedly, this reboot, with a script by Brad Copeland and Glen A. Larson, will follow along the comedic lines of ’21 Jump Street’ and its sequel ’22 Jump Street’.  (Side note, why haven’t Cena and Channing Tatum been cast as brothers in a movie yet?!  Am I the only one that sees the resemblance?)

But when asked about ‘Knight Rider’, Cena reacted:

“Ehhhh, once again it takes a miracle to make a movie nowadays. It is still in the works and hopefully, it will come to fruition because the draft I read of it… I thought it was amazing.”

In addition to Cena, The Weinstein Company was hoping to hook Kevin Hart as the voice of KITT.  Hart is coming off of one of the biggest hits of the year, ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’.  Meanwhile, Cena will be back on the big screen this weekend in ‘Blockers’, which is… yep, another raunchy adult comedy.  This film is directed by Kay Cannon and also stars Leslie Mann, Katheryn Newton, and Ike Barinholtz.

Would you like to see Cena and the hear the voice of Hart in a reboot of ‘Knight Rider’?  Are you bummed that it doesn’t seem like it’s happening any time soon?
