Rumors were swirling that we were finally getting an ‘Aquaman’ teaser trailer this last weekend and when Saturday came and went with no footage, director James Wan (‘The Conjuring’,’Furious 7′) took to Twitter to talk about it. First off, it sounds like the rumor was always just that. The direct hadn’t planned on releasing a trailer yet as they have so many visual effects to create still, that it just isn’t ready to be viewed yet.
You wouldn’t want a primary character walking around with a green arm that is waiting for CGI to be added to it still now would you?
To dash these rumors and take responsibility for the trailer not being ready for release, Wan stated:
Hey friends, I usually do my best to avoid internet noises (especially fabricated distractions) but a teaser-trailer going out this weekend was never in the books — despite what some claim. It’s not because of anyone or any nefarious reason holding it back — IT’S ME. (1/3)

I am simply not ready yet to share. This movie is filled to the gills with VFX, and the process is as slow and laborious as a sea-slug! Yes, even shots for the trailers take forever to do, and I refuse to put out anything that might be construed as subpar. (2/3)

I know it seems like nothing much is brewing above the surface, but I can assure you, we’re working nonstop under the waves 🌊 😉 (3/3)

I’m glad he was able to make this announcement as punny as possible. I’m a massive fan of Wan’s work, and I’m sure we can all agree that ‘Aquaman’ likely isn’t the type of film which can have a trailer stop halfway through due to a lack of visuals being completed and instead is completed with action figures.
However, Wan, you should really talk Jason Momoa into getting into costume and spoofing that trailer when you are ready to show something off!
The DCEU has had mixed reviews so far though ‘Wonder Woman’ showed that a movie entirely without Zach Snyder’s influence has both critics and moviegoers entertained. Here’s hoping that Wan can recreate that magic with DC’s superhero that is more often the butt of jokes than anything else.
Are you looking forward to checking out ‘Aquaman’? Do you feel that Jason Wan is doing the right thing and giving us a fully realized trailer instead of just showing something incomplete off? Share your thoughts below!
‘Aquaman’ will be swimming onto the big screen on December 21st, 2018!
