Virtually from the moment Black Widow was introduced in ‘Iron Man 2’, audiences have been clamoring for Scarlett Johansson’s super spy to get a solo movie. Though the demand only increased after the character’s star turn in ‘The Avengers’, the closest we’ve had to a solo Widow movie thus far is a scene-stealing supporting appearance in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. But all that may soon be changing.
While we’re still a long way from buying tickets, Marvel Studios has hired screenwriter Jac Schaffer to pen a script for a Black Widow feature. But what about the Widow herself? Scarlett Johansson has certainly made her interest in a solo feature clear in the past, but what sort of ground would she like to see the movie cover if and when it finally gets made?
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Johansson offered some insight into exactly that:
“I love playing this character, and I think there is definitely an opportunity to explore the Widow as a woman who has kind of come into her own and is making independent and active choices for herself, probably for once in her life. You know, she hasn’t always had that possibility so if it fit that criteria, then yes, I would want to do it.”
Scarlett Johansson will next appear as Black Widow in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, which marks the culmination of a decade-long effort by Marvel Studios and sees the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos. Directed by the Russo brothers from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the film counts Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olson, Sebastian Stan, and three gentlemen named “Chris” among its gargantuan cast. The long awaited movie is set to arrive in theaters on April 27, 2018.
