westworld

Right out of the gate we had fan theories popping up about ‘Westworld’ and as the series ran they only developed even further over time. The second season of this fan-favorite HBO plans on going far beyond that as showrunner Jonathan Nolan intends to “f*ck with Reddit as much as possible” and screw with the fan theory community.

He shared this fun little nugget at SXSW, and with how intricate things worked out in the first season, you can only imagine what kind of insanity this means the writers will have in store for the second:

“True Detective had a lot of fan theories that proved to be theories. There are lot of theories about Westworld’s first season that proved to be plot twists. I think for every fan theory, we actually had an episode that dealt with it.”

In fact, the buck doesn’t stop there as Nolan’s going to be allowing viewers to interact with the show on a new level going forward. He doesn’t state how exactly but does share:

“We’re figuring out how to sort of interact with that in the second season. A somewhat controversial plan that we’re working on; we’ll have an announcement about it in a couple weeks.”

Nolan isn’t casting this “controversial plan” negatively, however:

“It’s incredibly gratifying to see people put that much work — not just into deciphering the season, but the fan art and music. The creativity you see coming back at you when you’re making one of these things is extraordinary.”

I can’t even imagine what kind of a “controversial plan” the show could possibly have that would encourage audience interaction even more. That being said, I can’t wait to find out what it is!
