While they aren’t the first name that usually would come to mind when it comes to licensed figures and collectibles, there’s not doubt that the team at Playmobil have stepped up their game in a big way over the last two years! Last year they announced they would be delving into their first licensed product lines with ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘How To Train Your Dragon’, both of which blew away any and all expectations with their high quality attention to detail and playability! This year at New York Toy Fair 2018 they were showing off the next generation of their licensed products with all new waves for ‘Ghostbusters 2’ and ‘The Real Ghostbusters’, plus new products for ‘How To Train Your Dragon’!

The ‘Ghostbusters’ brand is huge right now and going through somewhat of a renaissance with fans! Playmobil definitely chose wisely with this line and is planning a number of new sets based on both ‘Ghostbusters 2’ and ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ animated series! The ‘Ghostbusters 2’ line are all single boxed figures featuring the Ghostbusters in their updated grey jumpsuits. Each of them includes their iconic proto pack as well as a special new Ghost Trap that is designed to interact with the new Playmobil ‘Playmogram 3D’ mobile app for smart phones!

The Playmobil ‘Playmogram 3D’ app is designed to work along with your favorite Playmobil toys to allow them to interact in a whole new way! For example, each figure in the ‘Ghostbusters’ line comes with a Ghost Trap that interacts with the app and allows you to “catch” a ghost in 3D with lights and sounds! It might sound a little weird, but trust us, having seen it first hand it is fantastic!

The figures for ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ each come packaged with a vehicle as well as a separate ghost figure! Sets include Egon Spengler with the Cage Car, Ray Stantz with the Skybike, Peter Venkman and the Helicopter, and Winston Zeddmore with the Aqua Scooter! The entire ‘Ghostbusters’ line has been getting a huge reaction from the fans and Playmobil hopes to keep it going a while, so these likely are not going to be the last sets for this line!

Moving on to the Dreamworks ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ line, which has also seen great success with Playmobil, we have a number of new sets heading our way later this year! New ‘How to Train your Dragon’ sets are mostly comprised of a Dragon and a Rider figure with one exception that is a figure and a playset! Sets coming our way later this year include Gobber The Belch with Sheep Sling, Fishlegs with Meatlug, Snotlout with Hookfang, and Ruffnut and Tuffnut with Barf and Belch!

With all of these awesome new licensed sets coming from Playmobil, it kind of makes you wonder what they could do with some other major properties!
