lost in space

Netflix has unleashed the first trailer and a release date for their reboot of ‘Lost In Space’.  The first season becomes available to stream on April 13.  Based on the 1960s TV classic, ‘Lost In Space’ follows the exploits of the Robinson family who are among the first people sent to colonize outer space after Earth’s resources finally give out.  The series was ordered to series last June.

“Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination. Stranded along with the Robinsons are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception. The unsettlingly charismatic Dr. Smith is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. And the roguish, but inadvertently charming Don West is a highly-skilled, blue-collar contractor, who had no intention of joining the colony, let alone crash landing on a lost planet.”

Toby Stephens (‘Black Sails’) stars as father John Robinson, while Molly Parker (‘Deadwood’) portrays mother/aerospace engineer Maureen Robinson.  Taylor Russell portrays the Robinson’s eldest child, daughter Judy, Mina Sundwall plays middle child Penny and Maxwell Jenkins plays young son Will.  Ignacio Serricchio (‘Bones’) plays Don West, a smuggler and contractor, while in a twist, Parker Posey portrays the conniving Dr. Smith.  As teased in the trailer, a modernized version of The Robot will also appear.  (And yes, 30 years in the future, people will start naming their kids Maureen and Penny again.)
