It looks as if Paramount’s ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘ is moving forward as the studio is currently in talks with ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ director Chris McKay to helm the project! With ‘Nightwing’ already on his plate for the DCEU over at Warner Bros., it seems that the director is still diving headfirst into the genres we all love! He does tend to have more humor under his belt having already directed 41 episodes of ‘Robot Chicken’ as well as ‘Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III’ so you almost have to wonder what tone that they’re planning on taking with this new start for a potential film franchise.

Currently, the studio has the film set for a release date of July 23rd, 2021 which gives them plenty of time to put the pieces together. It isn’t clear if they’ll want to be working primarily with CGI or create actual set pieces though either route will likely be used in any follow-ups which the studio will probably pursue if this does well at the box office.

In 2015, it looked as if Warner Bros. was going to release a ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ film with Ansel Elgort in a starring role, but this ended up changing last year when the rights were sold to Paramount.

We know that Michael Gillio is working on the script with Hasbro’s AllSpark Pictures producing the movie, but not much else is known at this point. It is hard to even to say if they’re going to go with a meta approach and have actual roleplayers ending up in a fantasy world or will be mining the stories which the tabletop game had inspired.
