batman ninja

If the idea of an animated ‘Batman’ movie done in anime style is exciting to you, you are going to really like today’s news, which has the release of a US English trailer for ‘Batman: Ninja,’ as well as a synopsis for the new DC animated film, and the cover art for the Blu-Ray/ DVD (above). The trailer itself looks intense, and sets the stage for the story of Batman and his allies being sent back to feudal Japan by the Joker and Gorilla Grodd (as well as some other villains) and Batman having to find a way to stop them despite being deprived of his usual arsenal of tech and weapons to give him the upper hand. Luckily he still has most of the Bat-family with him, and from the trailer, looks to be able to fashion some awesome new armor from what he finds in historic Japan, though the Joker seems more than ready for the coming fight, as the trailer hints that the Clown Prince of Crime might have constructed some massive mechanical monster to fight Batman with. As said before, it all looks very intense, and kind of fun, and the anime adds a lot to the feel of the trailer, and will differentiate this film from the other DC animated films that came before. According to Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros Home Entertainment Vice-President, Family and Home-Entertainment Marketing in a recent press release about the film:

“Batman Ninja is an absolute feast for the senses, a stunning spectacle of anime wrapped around a thrill ride of a Batman story. Our partners at Warner Bros. Japan have conjured an impressive addition to the Dark Knight’s canon of entertainment, taking Batman and his friends and foes in an altogether new direction. We can’t wait for fans to see this film.”

The film was crafted by some amazing Japanese animation talent, with director Jumpei Mizusaki (who did the opening scene to ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’), writer Kazuki Nakashima (‘Gurren Lagann’), character designer Takashi Okazaki (‘Afro Samurai’), English script adapters Leo Chu and Eric Garcia, and Benjamin Melniker and Michael Uslan as executive producers. It will be released on digital on April 24th and come to home video on May 8th.

“Batman Ninja takes a journey across the ages as Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine transports many of Batman’s worst enemies to feudal Japan – along with the Dark Knight and a few of his allies. The villains take over the forms of the feudal lords that rule the divided land, with the Joker taking the lead among the warring factions. As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies – including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family – to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City.”
