Kitty Pryde

Merger with Disney or not, 20th Century Fox is still going to mine the rights to the ‘X-Men’ for every movie they can possibly make until the dust finally settles, which is how we get to today’s exciting news. It seems Tim Miller, director of the critically praised and beloved-by-fans ‘Deadpool’ film is working with Brian Michael Bendis, former star writer at Marvel Comics, current fresh talent at DC Comics, (the man responsible in recent years for ‘Ultimate Spider-Man,’ Miles Morales, and Jessica Jones, to name a few of his more high-profile highlights) to bring a Kitty Pryde standalone movie to the big screen.

‘X-Men’ fans will remember the character best from when she was played by Ellen Page in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ (where she valiantly took care of Juggernaut for the team) and in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ where her phasing abilities were used to send Logan back to the past to prevent the dark future the X-Men found themselves in. Now, under the codename of ‘143,’ Miller and Bendis are crafting a new story around the character, which is rumored to take place some time after the events of ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix.‘ (For anyone unaware, “143” is significant to Kitty Pryde in the comics as it is one of the first Kitty Pryde-centric issues of the ‘X-Men’ comic book, and features a solo adventure where she faces a demon while alone in the mansion.)

The possibilities are vast as to what the story could be for Kitty Pryde in the new film, as her character has been beloved by fans over the years and has spawned dozens of memorable storylines, from her time spent as the new Star Lord, to adventures in Japan with Wolverine, her love story with Colossus, her early days of joining Xavier’s school and befriending the X-Men, or even seeing her meet and spend time with her alien dragon friend Lockheed.

Here’s hoping that even with the Disney merger, they find a way to get this movie made, as it would be amazing to see Kitty Pryde shine up on the big screen, especially if they manage to find another amazing actress to portray her.
