Shazad Latif Star Trek; Discovery

If you’ve ever wanted to know how to speak Klingon, actor Shazad Latif is sharing how easy it was to learn for ‘Star Trek: Discovery.’ Klingon is one of the most popular fictional languages of all time and has been fully realized at this point. Now, the actor has some pointers for learning the language and feels that it wasn’t quite the challenge he suspected it would be.

In fact, if you are familiar with a couple of specific Earth languages it should be even easier for you to pick up! Here is what Latif had to say about it:

“It’s very similar sounds to Arabic and Spanish rolling Rs. I found it quite easy and I enjoy languages so it was a fun thing to get into, and it helps you obviously become Klingon.”

I’m not sure that what little I remember from my high school Spanish class that would help me here, but anyone who is bilingual with either of these two languages might want to consider picking up Klingon! You never know when ‘Star Trek’ is going to be looking for more actors, or you’ll want to know what is going on during the show without translations, or that you’ll end up checking out the play ‘A Klingon Christmas Carol’ which is pretty popular in Chicago around the holiday season.

You can check out the full interview below where he praises the ease of learning but feels that getting into costume was both “painful” and “claustrophobic.”

It’s always fun when an actor can give fun insights like this into getting into character on set.

Do you feel that learning Klingon will be as easy as Shazad Latif makes it out to be? Will we see an increase in Klingon and Federation hostilities in the second season of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’? Share your thoughts below!
