razzies

The highlight of the year for the film industry is always the presentation of the Academy Awards or Oscars.  The nominees for this year will be announced tomorrow.  But perhaps the low-light of the year is the Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies, which call out the worst the film industry had to offer for 2017.  As usual, this year’s nominees were announced a day before the Oscar nominations, and the “prizes” will be doled out on Saturday, March 3, one day prior to the Academy Awards ceremony.

One grain of salt, the Razzies tend to focus on big-budget easy targets.  They don’t take into account low-budget garbage that go straight to video or cable.  This year, most of the ire is directed toward the Tom Cruise dud ‘The Mummy’, the film that was supposed to kick off a shared universe of monster flicks for Universal Studios but may have torpedoed those plans completely.  Also up for “honors” are regular nominees, Tyler Perry, the ’50 Shades’ and ‘Transformers’ brands.  Comic book fans can breathe a sigh of relief as even the disappointing ‘Justice League’ was not singled out.

Here are the nominees.  Do you agree with their selections?

What do you think?  Were they too harsh with some of these?  Or were they too soft on some other movies/individuals that should have been nominated?  (The acting in ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ was pretty atrocious.)

The “winners” will be announced on March 3.  Place your bets now!
