We’re still unsure if Universal’s ‘Dark Universe‘ was dead on arrival from the box office failure known as ‘The Mummy‘ but it looks as if the studio is putting together a pre-production team for ‘Bride of Frankenstein’! Now, if this will be a stand-alone movie or course correction for a cinematic universe of classic creature features is still unknown. What we do know is that Bill Condon (‘Beauty and The Beast’) is still directing with Javier Bardem starring in the film.
At one point Angelina Jolie was in talks to portray The Bride, but it is unsure if production delays or the shaky reception of ‘The Mummy’ had her lose interest in the project but now she’ll be working on ‘Maleficent 2’ which is expected to begin shooting in April. Gal Gadot (‘Wonder Woman’) has been in talks for the role, but there has been no official confirmation one way or another at this time.
The pre-production team includes Tobias A. Schliessler (‘Lone Survivor’,’A Wrinkle In Time’), production designer Sarah Greenwood (‘Darkest Hour,’Sherlock Holmes’), composer Carter Burwell (‘Fargo’,’No Country For Old Men’), and costume designer Jacqueline Durran (‘Atonement’,’Darkest Hour’). A few of these names Condon has worked with in the past as Schliessler, Greenwood, and Durran worked on ‘Beauty and The Beast’ with the director.
With Jolie currently tied up and Gadot likely working with Patty Junkins on ‘Wonder Woman 2‘ in June this will either need to wait until the Fall to shoot or find another actress for the role.
Are you looking forward to ‘Bride of Frankenstein’? Do you think that this will be a continuation of the “Dark Universe” from ‘The Mummy,’ a stand-alone film, or a new launch for this cinematic universe of monsters? Which actress would you like to play the part? Share your thoughts below!
