With the release just a little over a month away, Marvel Studios is stepping up promotion for ‘Black Panther,’ releasing new featurette focusing on the legacy of the character.
Featuring appearances by Stan Lee, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler, the video explains for those unfamiliar with the ‘Black Panther’ that he’s more than just a superhero; he’s royalty.
The film’s star Chadwick Boseman spoke recently about Coogler’s first Marvel movie and what differentiates T’Challa from the rest of the studio’s line-up. Boseman explains that the character’s regal heritage is what makes him different. He said:
“It’s not just stuff blowing up. It definitely is a character piece. He has to look out for an entire nation. That’s a responsibility that other superheroes don’t commonly have.”
Aside from Boseman playing the title character, ‘Black Panther’ also stars Michael B. Jordan (‘Creed’), Lupita Nyong’o (‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ ‘12 Years a Slave’), Danai Gurira (‘The Walking Dead’), Martin Freeman (‘The Hobbit trilogy’), Daniel Kaluuya (‘Get Out’), Angela Bassett (‘American Horror Story,’), Forest Whitaker (‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’), and Andy Serkis (‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’).
Here is an official synopsis of the film:
After the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ King T’Challa returns home to
the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as
his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for
the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to
destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A.
agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakanadan special
forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
While the video doesn’t feature a significant amount of new footage from the movie itself, there are new shots from behind-the-scenes included. Check it out below!
