Gerry Duggan and Aaron Kuder are the creators behind the upcoming ‘Infinity Countdown‘ and they will be telling us an entirely different story of the Infinity Stones than we are used to. The 616 Universe has been destroyed and recreated with the multiverse during recent story arcs and with it, the Infinity Stones as well.

According to Duggan “the source codes for the Marvel Universe can be destroyed, but they must reappear elsewhere… the stones are different now, and they work differently.”

Duggan considers the Infinity Stones as “dumb rocks that sometimes bang together yielding spectacular results.” However, as to why they hold such influence over the Marvel Universe? According to Kuder:

“It’s the unique nature of each stone, Time, Reality, Power, Mind, Soul, Space, and the way they become something greater than the sum of their parts that makes them the universe’s most powerful and dangerous items. Anyone of them could give someone the master over that specific element, combining any two could conceivably make someone the most dominate creature in the universe.”

Duggan wouldn’t tell us why the Power Stone is so huge now especially since they were last seen in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and reveals that will eventually be explained. He did, however, chime in as to how large the story will be:

“This is the biggest story I’ve told on the Marvel stage, and I’ve told some pretty big stories in the last five years. I hope readers will enjoy reading it as much as we’re digging it behind the scenes. Sure, some big, heavy stuff is going to happen, but it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun.”

Kuder teases that no corners will be left untouched as the story is “spread pretty widely across the stars.” With Thanos being so intimately involved with the gauntlet in the past and the stones being able to work in conjunction with the universe being recreated, it wouldn’t surprise me if he makes a play or is involved here somehow. Especially since in the current ‘Thanos’ storyline he has ended up as the absolute ruler of the universe.
