True fans may think they know everything there is to know about Superman’s origin story, but SYFY’s new series ‘Krypton’ will explore the extended history of the House of El, and may surprise even the most diehard of fans.

Krypton’ will debut on March 21, 2018, and will take place “two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet,” according to an official synopsis. The series will follow Kal-El’s grandfather, Seg-El, as he attempts to bring order to his house, as well as his planet.

Sef-El will reportedly receive a visit from none other than Earth-based time traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos), who will warn him that “he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos.” Apparently, that will involve restoring his family’s honor and bringing order to the Kryptonian leadership.

Seg-El will be faced with some difficult choices. Most importantly, he will have to choose whether to save Krypton or let it be destroyed in order to allow his famous grandson to achieve his destiny. Tough break, Seg-El!

Below you can see an exclusive first look at the House of El, which includes Game of Thrones actor Ian McElhinney (Ser Barristan Selmy) wearing some very familiar colors:

Aside from Cuffe, Sipos, and the aforementioned McElhinney, ‘Krypton’ will also star Georgina Campbell (‘Broadchurch’), Elliot Cowan (‘Da Vinci’s Demons’), Ann Ogbomo (‘World War Z’), Rasmus Hardiker (‘Your Highness’), Wallis Day (‘Will’), and Aaron Pierre (‘The A Word’). It will be executive-produced by David S. Goyer (‘Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’) under the banner of his Phantom Four, and Cameron Welsh will act as showrunner.
