While promoting their new movie, ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Hailee Steinfeld and Rebel Wilson both admitted that they were keen to play superheroes in the new year.

First Wilson discussed her own martial arts skills which she gets to display in ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ and expressed her enjoyment of ‘Wonder Woman’ but admitted that Gal Gadot’s Amazon was a “certain type” which she didn’t quite embody.  But she stated that she’d seen online postings from fans who thought she’d make a good match for Valiant Entertainment’s Faith, a character that not only stars in her own award-winning series but as part of the team ‘Harbinger’.

In 2015, Valiant Entertainment and Sony Pictures announced plans to create a series of five movies based on Valiant’s comic book heroes, including a ‘Harbinger‘ film, a sequel and a crossover movie ‘Harbinger War’ which will also feature the character Bloodshot.  There really hasn’t been much chatter about these movies, but the first ‘Harbinger’ was expected to be released in 2018.  However, with it having not begun production, that most likely won’t happen.  In 2005, a separate ‘Harbinger’ movie was announced with Brett Ratner attached to direct, but that also obviously didn’t materialize.

In addition to the ‘Pitch Perfect’ movies, Wilson has also appeared in ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’, ‘How To Be Single’ and ‘The Brothers Grimsby’.  She next appears in ‘Isn’t It Romantic’ and is currently filming ‘Nasty Women’, a female remake of ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ with Anne Hatheway.

As for Steinfeld, while at first she wasn’t certain which superhero she wanted to play, but when the interviewer mentioned ‘Batgirl’, she replied:

“Not going to lie.  That’s kind of what I was thinking, but I didn’t know what to say. I would love that.”

‘Batgirl’ is currently being written by Joss Whedon, who will direct for Warner Brothers.  Though there has been some shuffling behind the scenes, ‘Batgirl’ is still in the pipeline, although a release date isn’t scheduled.  Whedon had previously stated that he wanted to cast an unknown, which is not a title that can be applied to Academy Award nominee Steinfeld.

She gained her nomination for her role as Mattie Ross in 2010’s ‘True Grit’ and has also appeared in ‘Ender’s Game’, ‘Barely Lethal’, ‘Term Life’ and ‘The Edge of Seventeen’.  She will next appear in the ‘Transformers’ spin-off ‘Bumblebee’.  When she isn’t acting, she is a successful pop singer, recently hitting the charts with her single ‘Let Me Go’, a collaboration with Alesso, Florida Georgia Line and Watts.

Check out the interview below:

Wilson may be a bit old to play Faith, but Steinfeld actually could make a pretty excellent ‘Batgirl’.  And while she is fairly accomplished, she isn’t a household name, so while Whedon may favor an unknown, with Steinfeld he may get someone who is still a fresh face but could still draw some who are already fans of her work.

Neither ‘Harbinger’ nor ‘Batgirl’ has a firm release date, but you can catch both Wilson and Steinfeld in ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ which opens on December 22.
