It should come as no surprise that an 80s pop culture video game is being reimaged. This time it’s ‘Galaga’ which will have an animated series and “a fully immersive experience.” This concept is coming from a partnership between both the Nuttery Entertainment and Meow Wolf. Honestly, the company names sound more original than the idea of once again taking an iconic piece of pop culture and modernizing it.

The idea of the game is that you are a pilot who is fighting off alien invaders which appear insect-like in nature. Obviously, this is a very basic premise which means they can go quite a few ways in expanding plot ideas to build upon so it will be interesting to see what direction the creative team ends up taking the series.

News of ‘Galaga Chronicles’ coming as a series was first announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con but the experience announcement is attempting to “bridge the animated content from the series with physical exhibitions, merchandise, live media, and a new, annual gaming competition series “Score Wars. ” Al will launch at the Galaga World Championship in Santa Fe, New Mexico on March 29, 2018.

It sounds as if the studios have a lot on their plate to try and deliver alongside the anime-styled series.

According to Meow Wolf CEO Vince Kadlubek:

“Meow Wolf’s work with The Nuttery to evolve classic ’80s arcade magic into 21st-century vision and experience is huge news for gamers old and new. There’s been a lot of exciting productions in this area in recent years, but Galaga Chronicles will set a new standard.”

If that will be a standard that makes all of the cinematic takes of video game adaptations jealous due to their flopping at the box office that could be a good thing. However, it is still a bit too early to hazard any guesses on how this will play out.
