Mortal Engines

The first trailer for Peter Jackson‘s newest epic ‘Mortal Engines’ is here!  Jackson serves as producer, while Christian Rivers directed, with a script by Jackson, Phillippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, based on the novels by Philip Reeve.

Many years after the “Sixty Minute War,” cities survive a now desolate Earth by moving around on giant wheels attacking and devouring smaller towns to replenish their resources.

The film stars Robert Sheehan, Hera Hilmar, Hugo Weaving, Leila George, Ronan Raftery, Jihae, Stephen Lang , Patrick Malahide, Colin Salmon, Regé-Jean Page, Mark Hadlow and Sophie Cox.

‘Star Wars’ fans were treated to this trailer before screenings of ‘The Last Jedi’ this weekend.  In it, we spy Hera Hilmar as Hester Shaw as the towering Steampunk monstrosity that is now London gobbles up a small town of scavengers.

The film is still a year away, so this is just a teaser taste to make viewers aware of this upcoming epic.  Check it out below:

‘Mortal Engines’ is scheduled for release on December 14, 2018, the same weekend as the animated ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’.  Normally, a sci fi spectacle and an animated film wouldn’t overlap when it comes to demographics, but this is a Spider-Man movie so there will certainly be some that have to make a tough choice once this weekend rolls around.  (Unless they have the time, money and inclination to see both.)

Some are surely disappointed that Jackson didn’t direct this film himself, but Rivers collaborated with Jackson on ‘Dead Alive’, ‘Heavenly Creatures’, ‘King Kong’ and the ‘Hobbit’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogies.  This marks his first feature.  The film that Jackson is next due to direct is the motion capture ‘The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun’.

What do you think of ‘Mortal Engines’ so far?  Was the trailer enough to whet your appetite?
