While the DCEU looked to be faltering when ‘Justice League’ opened to poor results domestically, that isn’t the case from around the globe. Case in point, the movie is now China’s highest grossing DC film of all time! The movie which has been hitting critical, fan, and box office failure in the States has earned a global total of $569.2 million. The Chinese market accounted for $98.6 million of that meaning that in only three weeks it has beaten out the total draw of both ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ for their market.
Thankfully for Warner Brothers, this killer week overseas has meant that with less than a month left in 2017 that they’ve been able to pass the $3 billion mark at the global box office this year.
This isn’t the first time that the Chinese market has helped ailing films as they turned ‘Warcraft from a failure into a possible trilogy and a strong reason as to why ‘Pacific Rim‘ ended up getting a sequel in the first place.
That being said, Disney still owns the market as their latest Pixar film ‘Coco’ had the best earnings for the last week. As we all know, none of the numbers any of the superhero movies have pulled in so far will likely matter on December 15th when ‘Star Wars: The last Jedi’ strolls into the box office and dominates the sales charts into January.
