Last month, ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ director Simon Kinberg revealed in a statement that production on the film had wrapped, over a year before its scheduled release date of November 11, 2018. A few details of Kinberg’s version of the story have been released, and gives fans an idea of how the story is coming together.
While the details are not too spoiler-y, you should stop reading if you’re even the least bit spoiler sensitive!
The ‘Dark Phoenix’ story has been seen before in 2006’s ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ along with the abrupt disintegration of James Marsden’s Cyclops and the supposed “death” of Charles Xavier. Though it didn’t exactly follow the storyline of the comics, it gave fans a different version of Jean Grey – one that had to be stopped at any cost. 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ teased a second chance to see the story done again when Sophie Turner’s Jean saved the day with a tremendous display of power, hinting at what may be yet to come for the character.
It has been hinted that Kinberg plans to gives fans a taste of how powerful Jean can be. At this point, only Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, James McAvoy’s Charles, Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique and Nicholas Hoult’s Hank McCoy remain as mutants left standing from ‘X-Men: First Class’ who are returning for ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix.’ Kinberg is holding nothing back, and it has been rumored that, in one moment of the film, Jean’s powers will become too much for the hero to handle. With her powers out of control, Jean will is said to impale one of the characters mentioned above, undeniably killing that character.
While other details about the film remain unclear, fans can expect one wild ride when ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ arrives in theaters on November 11, 2018!
