a wrinkle in time

Disney has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming adventure film ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’ and the footage does not disappoint! Based on the beloved novel by Madeleine L’Engle that we all devoured in high school English, the film follows a young girl, Meg (Storm Reid), who goes in search of her father through interdimensional travel.

Oscar nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay directs from a script written by ‘Frozen’ co-writer/co-director Jennifer Lee, and this new trailer offers a showcase of the film’s grand visual effects while revealing a bit more of the story. We also get a glimpse of the three “celestials” played by Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling. Dream team!

The trailer also helps to explain the concept behind the title of the film. Meg’s father was looking for a way to travel to the stars and invented the Tesseract to transport vast distances instantaneously, only to be captured by a dark force. The “celestials” explain that they’re trying to find warriors to help them serve the light and that the only person who can save her father from the darkness is Meg herself.

Along with the new trailer, which you can check out below, are newly released images from the film! ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ also stars Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, Zach Galifianakis, and Levi Miller.

From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’
an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes
audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of
darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s
transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength
comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph
over fear is to travel by one’s own light.

‘A Wrinkle in Time’ opens in theaters on March 9, 2018.
