hellboy

We already knew that a ‘Hellboy’ omnibus was coming to give us a complete story of Mike Mignola’s most famous creation and now we’ve got a chance to see more of the covers and details being shared about it! For starters, we’ve learned that the covers have been created with one of Mignola’s longtime collaborative partner and colorists, Dave Stewart! For those of you who, like myself, will be picking up this four-volume collection than you’ll be happy to know that you’re in for a real treat as we’ve got a chance to see all four of the covers for the first time.

The two sets are ‘Omnibus’ and ‘Complete Short Stories’ which are set to bring together the full story of Hellboy in chronological order for the very first time. Ranging from his 1994 debut through ‘Hellboy in Hell’. Some fans might be a little miffed as it is unclear if the latest look into his past will be included in these collections at this time.

According to Mignola:

“Looking back at almost 25 years of Hellboy — as an artist and storyteller — I think I’ve gotten to do some pretty interesting stuff, and couldn’t have done half of it without my genius collaborator, the great Dave Stewart. Dave has delivered the mood and atmosphere for more than 20 years, and while I might have pointed the way, Dave is the one who got us to where we were going.”

As a long time fan of the work of everyone involved with the ‘Hellboy’ franchise, I’m thrilled. Also, Dark Horse has shared an updated release schedule for the books which is as follows:

  • Hellboy Omnibus Vol. 1: Seed of Destruction on May 9, 2018
  • Hellboy: The Complete Short Stories Vol. 1 on June 13
  • Hellboy Omnibus Vol. 2: Strange Places will be released June 20
  • Hellboy Omnibus Vol. 3: The Wild Hunt following July 18
  • Hellboy: The Complete Short Stories Vol. 2 hitting stores Aug. 15
  • Hellboy Omnibus Vol. 4: Hellboy in Hell on Sept. 5.

I’m not sure about the rest of you but I’m going to start saving for next year right now. As to the artwork, you can check out each of the covers being featured below!
