last jedi adam driver

Should Adam Driver have used the Force to keep his mouth shut? The star may have just dropped a major ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ spoiler that could all but confirm Rey’s parentage. When fans first saw ‘The Force Awakens,’ the question of where and who Rey came from weighed heavy on their minds. Theories came thick and fast, as they do, depending on who you asked. She was a Skywalker, a Solo, a Kenobi, a Palpatine, an Erso, a Wren or even a Fisto. Though it would seem that now fans are more interested in Rey’s future than her past. And interestingly enough, how her future will shape Kylo Ren’s as well.

Driver recently discussed Ren’s arc in a recent interview, shedding some light on the upcoming film’s portrayal of his character. He also went on to discuss his relation to Rey, and in doing so may have dropped a massive spoiler. Driver said:

“I remember the initial conversations about having things ‘skinned’, peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo’s pretending to be on the outside is not who he is. He’s a vulnerable kid who doesn’t know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he’s playing a role. JJ had that idea initially and I think Rian took it to the next level. You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices.”

In case you missed it, Driver referred to Rey a princess. Because ‘Star Wars’ is all about family lineage, any fan’s mind would immediately go to one place: Driver is saying that Rey is (former) Princess Leia’s daughter, and by extension is Ben’s sister. This theory has, of course, been widely discussed over the past two years, but never confirmed.

Before you set your lightsabers on Driver, consider the big picture. Even though the article featuring the interview does hint at a spoiler, would Lucasfilm’s notoriously tight security really have let that happen? Also, Driver merely alludes that Rey is royalty, which could mean any number of things. Remembering that the article was centered around the character arc of Kylo Ren, it’s likely that Driver was speaking in broad terms, comparing Rey to a classic heroine.

So, did Driver put his foot in it and drop a massive spoiler? Maybe. Fans will have to wait and see when ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ opens in theaters on December 15!
