DC will reportedly be making a movie surrounding Deathstroke The Terminator / Slade Wilson, and ‘The Raid’ director Gareth Evans will direct with ‘True Blood’s’ Joe Manganiello set to star!
Fans of the DC franchise have been hoping to see Manganiello take on the role of Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in the DCEU. In fact, the actor was rumored to have a secret debut in ‘Justice League,’ but was then speculated to be one of the main villains in Ben Affleck’s version of ‘The Batman.’ When Affleck bowed out of directing the solo film, it was assumed that Manganiello’s role may be going with him. When director Matt Reeves took over ‘The Batman,’ he brought a new story concept with him. The lack of any confirmation from Manganiello made it seem like there was no place for him in the new version of the film. If DC is going to release ‘Deathstroke’ as a standalone film, it would make sense to introduce fans to this version of the character cold, rather than having his first appearance be a shared run in an ensemble film.
One thing is for certain surrounding the upcoming project, having Evans onboard to direct is a definite win. Evans became a breakout star when his Indonesian martial arts film ‘The Raid: Redemption’ became an international cult-hit in 2011. The sequel film arrived in 2014, and while it was critically acclaimed for its martial arts stuntwork, it did not fare well at the box office. Plans for a third and final chapter never seemed to come to fruition.
Having Evans take his turn in the DCEU may breathe new life into the franchise, which is something fans can look forward to. ‘Raid’ fans will attest that this will be a movie that brings a level of action that superhero fans have never seen before!
