Stephen King‘s ‘Dark Tower’ may have failed to woo fans of the novel and at the box office but according to Idris Elba (‘Luthor’), there are still talks for a sequel in the works. Honestly, if they’re able to learn from their mistakes and give us a solid follow up that fans of King’s epic deserve, this could be great news. However, at this time I’m not holding my breath for it to happen with how poorly the first installment performed. I did enjoy Elba’s performance as the Roland Deschain and you can’t say it was his acting that hurt the movie’s chances of resonating with audiences, just what he had to work with.

While the television version that will tell part of the Gunslinger’s past is still in the works, when asked about it in a recent interview, Elba said he would be interested in reprising his role there but he’s more interested in a follow up to the cinematic take:

“I think any TV series that is an offshoot from the film can have more time to explore some themes. I’d personally prefer to do another Dark Tower film, exploring some more of the gunslinger – as a film.”

That makes it sound even less likely that he would be heavily involved in the television series past the original pitch which had him narrating the episodes and telling these tales of his youth to Jake Chambers. That isn’t to say that a sequel is out of the question though:

“I don’t know much about where they are with the TV show – but I think there’s definitely talks to try and do another one.”

Again, that sounds like he won’t be involved in the TV side of things that much, but with another 4 episodes of ‘Luthor’ set to be released as well as the premiere of ‘The Mountain Between Us’, it isn’t as if Elba is hurting for work.

Would you be willing to take another journey to the ‘Dark Tower’ if they made changes in the sequel to be more in line with the feel of the books or has the first movie soured your interest on seeing more? Share your thoughts below!
