WARNING: Spoilers for ‘The Defenders’ AHEAD!
When ‘The Defenders‘ came to a close with the Midland Circle building imploding on top of Daredevil and Elektra leaving everyone on the series thinking Matt Murdock had perished, fans who knew what was going on had far less to be upset about, especially since news had already broke that ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 was coming to Netflix, which clearly meant Matt Murdock survived the implosion of that building. So when ‘The Defenders’ had its final moment with Matt, with the nun watching over him, having clearly been somehow pulled from the rubble and being nursed back to health, few were all that surprised, but for those wondering whether this could somehow be a flashback or some kind of trick, a new teaser for ‘Daredevil’ season 3 on Twitter confirms that Matt Murdock will be back soon. Check it out for yourself below:

The picture itself reveals very little (though I do like the transition to braille), the real teaser is in the caption, which reads “I’M FINE,” which ostensibly is Matt assuring his fans and his friends that he not only survived but will be back to full fighting form during ‘Daredevil’ Season 3. Which again, leaves me scratching my head as to WHY they even bothered pretending to kill Matt during ‘The Defenders.’ There was no poignancy for the fans, everyone knew it was not his end, so I personally hope there were significant story points/plot points to be gained by the fake-out death, otherwise, it just seems like shoddy writing.
What do you think of the new teaser or the whole idea of pretending to kill off Matt at the end of ‘The Defenders?’ Do you have any theories as to why they did it? Do you agree with those who believe they want to do the ‘Born Again’ storyline in ‘Daredevil’ season 3, so the “death” was necessary? Share your thoughts/ theories in the comments below!
