It’s been a little while, but we’re back with an all-new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! We know you missed us this past week, but we’ve been keeping as busy as ever! Even though we took the week off, toy news certainly didn’t, so this week is jam-packed full of good stuff from a number of our favorite companies like NECA, Diamond Select, Hasbro, and more! We’ve got new ‘Star Wars’, a better look at new ‘Pacific Rim’, and whole new lines of figures based on some top brands like ‘Disney Afternoon’ and even ‘James Bond 007’! There’s so much awesome stuff to see in the toy news for the week of October 17, 2017!

DST Re-Cancels The Apocalypse!

While we already saw these in our recent interview with Zach Oat, Diamond Select Toys has released some official images of their upcoming figures for ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’! We’ve got a closer look at three of the upcoming Jaeger’s from the film including Gipsey Avenger, Bracer Phoenix, and Saber Athena! Also announced but not shown are the Jaegers Titan Redeemer and Guardian Bravo. So far this line is certainly shaping up to be a “must have” for a lot of collectors! Here’s hoping we get to see a closer look at some upcoming Kaiju figures soon!

New From NECA

The team at NECA is pulling out all the stops with a few new announcements this week including a new license, new waves of figures for an existing license, and some fantastic new one-off items that are going to have horror fans in a tizzy!

First up is the big reveal that NECA has obtained the ‘Crash Bandicoot’ license! While he was massively popular in the 90’s, for a while there the once iconic video game icon had fallen out of the spotlight and was seemingly put out to pasture. Now Crash is celebrating a return to the forefront of gaming with a huge reassurance of popularity thanks to an HD remake of the original ‘Crash Bandicoot’ games. With NECA having obtained the license, it’s probably safe to say we can expect some fantastic new ‘Crash Bandicoot’ figures and collectibles in the near future!

Next up we’ve got an update for a whole second series of figures in NECA’s recently released ‘Blade Runner 2049’ line! Much like the first wave, Series 2 of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ from NECA will be comprised of two figures. Figures planned for this second wave include Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) and Luv (Sylvia Hoeks). Each figure stands around 7″ tall and features highly detailed fully articulated sculpts. These two don’t hit theaters until January 2018, but you can check the movie their from out right now as ‘Blade Runner 2049’ recently hit theaters!

And finally, while the holiday itself may have been this past week, NECA has big plans for ‘Friday The 13th’! On the infamous holiday last Friday they announced an all-new 7″ scale ‘ Friday The 13th Part 2 Ultimate Jason Voorhees’ figure! This film featured the first appearance of adult Jason and is known for being the only ‘Friday The 13th’ film featuring Jason without his iconic hockey mask (which he obtained at the beginning of ‘Part 3’), as Jason wears a burlap sack over his head for the duration of this film. NECA has released a teaser image of his packaging but has yet to show the figure or give any release date information for him beyond vaguely sometime in 2018.

If an all-new Jason figure isn’t enough for horror fanatics, NECA also announced the new ‘Friday The 13th Jason Voorhees Accessory Pack’! With this new set you’ll be able to spice up your ‘Friday The 13th’ display with a ton of new accessories including a ‘Camp Crystal Lake’ sign, a 7″ long Dock base, and a rock with chain display base so you can even create the infamous ‘floating’ Jason look as if he were at the bottom of the lake! Sadly, Jason is not included here, so you’ll have to pick up one of the various versions NECA has released over the years to truly take advantage of this set! Still, it’s an awesome add-on for ‘Friday The 13th’ fans! The ‘Friday The 13th Jason Voorhees Accessory Pack’ is set to release in February 2018.

Mighty Muggs Make A Comeback

In an announcement that surprised literally everyone (except maybe those who work there), the team at Hasbro has announced the return of the ‘Mighty Muggs’ line! The line first launched around a decade ago and sold strongly for a while before sort of fading into obscurity. Now they’re back with a slightly new style and scale, and a brand new twist (literally)! The new Hasbro Mighty Muggs will feature a new “push and turn” feature that allows you to change the characters facial expression, which is a unique new addition to the fondly remembered line of stylized figures. Telltale Guardians Are Ready To Rock

The team at Telltale Games are renowned for being able to give gamers a powerful character driven video game experience, and their latest efforts with the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ series is a perfect example of that! The game gives a distinctly unique new spin on the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ characters we know and love, telling a story that is based neither in the movies or the comics but one that is still easily identifiable as feeling like a true ‘Guardians’ adventure. Now they’re teaming up with Funko to bring this new version of the Guardians Of The Galaxy to life in your POP! Collection! While they haven’t announced a complete set of all your favorite heroes yet, Funko has announced new POP! Vinyls of Gamora and Hala The Accuser are coming our way this December! We’re also getting a 2-Pack of Rocket Raccoon with Lylla (his lady friend who happens to be an Otter!) just in time for the holiday season! Funko’s newest line, Vynl, is going to see some new additions this winter! From the recent horror hit ‘It’, we’ve got a 2-pack of Pennywise and Georgie, which is ominously creepy! ‘Thundercats’ fans can look forward to adding Panthro and Cheetara to their collection (which hopefully already includes Lion-O and Mumm-Ra that were recently NYCC exclusive!), while DC Comics fans can expect a new 2-pack of Darkseid with Martian Manhunter! Funko’s Vynl line is quickly growing, and a fanbase for it is growing right along with it! As long as Funko keeps up with making new items, their rabid fanbase will always be hungry for more.

Disney Afternoon Is Back!

In the mid-90’s there were few things cooler than the Disney Afternoon animation block! It gave life to a number of now iconic new cartoons that a whole generation fondly remembers as the best of the best including ‘Darkwing Duck’, ‘Talespin’, ‘Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers’, and ‘Ducktales’! These action-packed adventures are now coming home to your toy shelves with a new line of Disney Afternoon Action Figures from the team at Funko! The first wave of figures is set to include Darkwing Duck (as well as a Black/White chase variant) from the series of the same name, Baloo from ‘Talespin’, Scrooge McDuck from ‘Duck Tales’, and Chip and Dale (and Zipper, who is packaged with Dale) from ‘Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers’! These are set to hit the shelves in November, so keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks!
