‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ stands out as one of the most visually impressive and Marvel movie, and it’s no secret that leagues of movie magic and behind the scenes work goes into making a movie look that good.
Visual effects company Framestore has released a brand new VFX reel exploring their work on James Gunn‘s superhero flick and offers full of breakdowns for the film’s most impressive sequences, including the opening battle against the tentacle monster, Yondu’s prison escape, oh and skinless Rocket Raccoon.
Yes, I said Skinless Rocket Raccoon. The foul-mouthed, furry gunslinger voiced by Bradley Cooper looks absolutely terrifying in the video reel. Because part of the video is dedicated to perfecting the anatomy of everybody’s favorite trash panda, that means refining his skeletal and muscular structures long before it comes time for all that fur. It is, quite frankly, the stuff of nightmares. See for yourself in the VFX reel below, but beware…you will probably never be the same.
While Cooper provides the voice for Rocket, Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, who also plays the Ravager Kraglin, stands in for the character on set during production. VFX specialists go in during post-production to bring the adorably scrappy Guardian to life.
For those of us who need more Rocket (fur or no fur) in our lives, he will return with his fellow Guardians in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ which will bring together everyone’s favorite intergalactic band of misfits with “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.” Gunn then has plans to continue the Guardians films after the fourth ‘Avengers’ film.
