It looks like ‘Westworld’ could be heading east, as fans were hoping it would.
Perhaps the biggest “what just happened” moments in the ‘Westworld’ Season 1 finale was the revelation that there was at least one other theme park run by Delos Incorporated, apparently where other rich guys could go live out their wildest whims if the cowboy theme of ‘Westworld’ wasn’t in their wheelhouse.
While we didn’t find out the name of the park, we know the initials are SW. Since we were able to glimpse warrior gear on full display, fans are theorizing that the initials could stand for Samurai World, Shogun World or Sensei World, and that the park would be set in feudal Japan. Naturally, fans want to know if we will get to explore Samurai World in Season 2. Well call your sensei, because we now have proof that we will!
Actor Hiroyuki Sanada (‘Helix’, ‘Lost’) has been cast in ‘Westworld’ for multiple episodes in the second season. His character’s name is Musashi and the most dedicated ‘Westworld’ fans should recognize that name.
At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the wildly popular and adorable Funko Pop line released a new figurine based on a ‘Westworld’ character named Musashi, who could be the legendary swordsman Musashi Miyamoto, and the figurine was all decked out in, you guessed it, samurai gear.
It was an odd choice because it seemed a little spoilery as we have yet to meet this character. However, the character has not been confirmed to exist beyond the Funko toy, although we totally hope it does!
Now that we know Sanada has joined the show as Musashi, we’re almost certain that we’ll at least get a taste of Samurai World unless Musashi finds his way into Westworld. If Season 1 has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected.
‘Westworld’ returns in 2018 on HBO.
