battlestar galactica

Well, it’s not quite a revival of the series, but it is something. For anyone who does not have the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ DVDs (or Blu Rays for that matter) or somehow does not have access to them through some other streaming service, SYFY is throwing you a bone in September. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the SYFY Network they are going to be re-airing the vaunted series for all of their fans.

The viewing party begins on Friday, September 22nd at 8/7c with the two-part TV miniseries, with Season 1 then starting Saturday, September 23rd at 6/5c, and continuing on Sunday, September 24th at 6/5c. And for those of us who have cut the cord, they will also be offering all 76 episodes of the series plus the miniseries on-demand starting on Friday, September 22nd, and it will stay on-demand for 30 days.

Aside from the epic ‘Battlestar Galactica’ marathon, SYFY has a few other celebrations in mind for its 25th anniversary as well. There will be a new podscast with ‘Mythbusters’ host Adam Savage, a screening series they are having working with Alamo Drafthouse, and intriguing new on-air content from the fans themselves. Personally, I kind of hoped in light of their 25th anniversary they might go back to their original name of Sci Fi, as they have been the target of endless mockery since the corporate name change back in 2009, but I suppose it has been 8 years and I doubt they are going to change anything now.

Will you be tuning in to the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ marathon? Or are the days of marathon binge watching over since we now have DVD’s (and Blu Rays) and shows available for streaming? Or will you be tuning in just to show loyalty to the network and their 25 years of programming? Feel free to share your opinions on the marathon and the anniversary in the comments below!
