star trek: discovery

Fans have been asking for some time, and CBS has delivered! The first official cast/character portrait photos of the new ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ crew have arrived. Straight from the studio today, these shots feature several human and alien members of the series cast.

In the first photo, we see First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). If you are a ‘Walking Dead‘ fan, you may remember that her casting was announced right before the ‘Walking Dead’ season finale.

Another image gives us an action shot of Jason Isaacs as Captain Gabriel Lorca. Isaacs has an impressively nerdy resume, starring in films like ‘Event Horizon,’ ‘Resident Evil, and ‘Armageddon.’ Of course, Potter Heads will recognize him as the maniacal Lucius Malfoy in the ‘Harry Potter’ films.

Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) poses in this third image. You may recognize Yeoh from films like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,’ and ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.’

Anthony Rapp appears as Lt. Paul Stamets. If you, like me, are a Broadway nerd, you may remember Rapp from his days starring in musicals such as ‘Rent’ and ‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown!’ If not, well, you may know him as “that guy from ‘Adventures in Babysitting.’”

Mary Wiseman as Cadet Sylvia Tilly looks regal in her promo. Wiseman starred in the long-running Western crime drama, ‘Longmire’ alongside Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica).

Doug Jones gives us a peak into his alien form as Lt. Commander Saru. Jones is no stranger to donning strange and unusual costumes to bring inhuman characters to life. Praised for his expressive movement, Jones played the titular character in ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, as well as the Pale Man (the creepy guy with eyes for hands). He’s also been featured in both the ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Batman’ series. He’s just really cool, okay?

Fans also get a glimpse of Ambassador Sarek (James Frain). Frain has really hit his TV stride in the past several years, appearing in ‘Shameless,’ ‘Gotham,’ ‘Agent Carter,’ and ‘Orphan Black.’

We also get our first look at actress Mary Chieffo as Klingon Battle Deck Commander L’Rell, along with Chris Obi as T’Kuvma.

In addition to these stunning new cast shots, there’s also a handful of new promotional photos arriving, from deeper into ‘Discovery‘s’ first season.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ premieres on Sunday, September 24th, on CBS before moving to CBS All Access for the rest of its 15-episode season.
