justice league

‘Justice League’ is getting closer by the day.  Based on the trailer’s it’s pretty clear what the general plot is.  After Superman’s death in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’, when a new threat arises Batman and Wonder Woman must do what they discussed, assemble the known beings with super powers to face Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) of the New Gods and his army of Parademons.

In case you were wondering about the timeline, reportedly this is a direct sequel to ‘Batman V Superman’.  Warner Brothers says that the DC Extended Universe will take place in chronological order.  Meaning that the events of ‘BvS’ happened, followed by ‘Suicide Squad’, even though Batman’s role in that was pretty small.  Then ‘Wonder Woman’ happened, although most of that film was a flashback.  Some time has passed but at least at the start of the film, Superman (Henry Cavill) is still dead.  So when Steppenwolf arrives, there is no single hero powerful enough to face him and his Parademons alone.  (Although, the end of the trailer showing Jeremy Irons as Alfred welcoming someone to the Batcave hints at what we all know is going to happen.)

Total Film has a pretty splashy article about ‘Justice League’.  Here are a few quotes from the movie’s cast.  They don’t give away much from the film, but should illustrate the enthusiasm that the actors have for the film and their roles.

Ben Affleck shared:

“It’s been an amazing cast, and the first time we were all on set and had our costumes on, it was a high-geek moment. It was electrifying.”

The Flash seems to be something of a fanboy as Ezra Miller describes him:

“He’s the 13-year-old Metallica fan, and Metallica says, ‘We lost our drummer in a freak accident. We need you to play drums, bro!’ ‘I don’t even have drumsticks!'”

You may recall a moment in the trailer where The Flash seems in over his head, exclaiming “It’s great that you’re ready to do battle.  I’ve never done battle.  I just push people and run away.”  Something tells me that his confidence will grow as the events of ‘Justice League’ unfold.

Jason Momoa’s Aquaman seems to fluctuate between angry outsider and exuberant warrior.

“[He’s] not readily accepted. He’s hurt. He covers it up.”

There have been implications that in the team, Aquaman has found a surrogate family.  We do know that his comic book wife, Mera (Amber Heard) appears, but it’s not clear what their relationship will be at this point.

So… no spoilers and not a lot of new light shed, but you don’t want to know everything about the movie before you get a chance to see it for yourself, right?

‘Justice League’ directed by Zack Snyder with Joss Whedon starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Ciarán Hinds and Henry Cavill, with Amy Adams, Amber Heard, Jeremy Irons, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Billy Crudup, Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe, Kiersey Clemons and J.K. Simmons will unite audiences on November 17, 2017.
