kevin bacon tremors

If you’ve been waiting for progress to happen on the Kevin Bacon starring ‘Tremors‘ series then you’ll be happy to hear that Jason Blum’s Blumhouse TV and Universal Cable Productions have just tapped Vincenzo Natali (‘Hannibal’,’Splice’) to direct! At the very least, he’ll be directing the pilot for Syfy’s new take on this cult classic which was written by Andrew Miller who is also the showrunner and an Executive Producer for the show. Bacon, David Schiff, and Jessica Rhoades will also be Executive Producers for the series.

Once again we’ll be seeing Kevin Bacon play Valentine McKee and it sounds like this reboot could just be a soft reboot that continues the original movie. It’s hard to tell, but the plot seems to still take place in Perfection, NV, 25 years after the Graboids almost destroyed this rustic town. In this outing, we’ll see McKee having “to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.”

Every report on the series seems to conflict if the series is a full reboot, soft reboot, or continuation from the original film but the more details that slip out like the above one make it sound like one of the latter two choices. I’m almost suspecting a soft reboot as the cinematic franchise has continued on the story for fans but only time will tell.

These two working together is actually a bit of a reunion between showrunner Miller and director Natali as they not only met in high school, but Miller starred in Natali’s debut film ‘Cube’ which was released back in 1997. It should be noted that ‘Cube’ is also a cult classic that was has aired numerous times on Syfy over the years.

Are you looking forward to Syfy’s ‘Tremors’? Do you think that Vincenzo Natali is a good choice to direct the pilot, and potentially the series moving forward? Share your thoughts below!
