walking dead dream sequence

For decades Marvel published a comic book called ‘What If…?’ which featured “imaginary” stories of what would have happened if pivotal events in the “real” comics had gone differently.  ‘The Walking Dead’ may be published by Image Comics, but you’re about to get a similar experience… well, in regard to the TV adaptation, anyway.

In one of the most controversial moves in the show’s already shocking narrative was the kick off to Season 7, which introduced the villain Negan who exacted his revenge on Rick’s defiance of his directions by killing two beloved cast members, Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz).  Cue heart-tugging dream sequence.

‘What if…’ they hadn’t died?  Apparently, the zombie apocalypse would have been completely wiped out and the Alexandria family would have enjoyed large outdoor feasts.  This extended clip will be included among a variety of extras on the DVD and Blu-Ray releases of ‘The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season’.

Scored by series musical director Bear McCreary, this dream sequence is one continuous shot.

First we see Rosita lighting torches, rather happily, unlike the bitter woman scorned she was after Abraham dumped her in favor of Sasha.  Then we see both Abraham and Sasha, who are not only alive, but expecting!  (Sonequa Martin-Green was pregnant during part of filming, so that may be her real bump!)

Among the other “dreamy” revelations, a very much alive Glenn playing with the toddler son, that in reality will never know his father, a non-traitorous Eugene, Carol happily reunited with the group… and delivering a big batch of her famous cookies, Morgan also reunited and Spencer still alive.  After the camera pans past the happy family, it reaches the end of the table where Glenn and Abraham share a smile and a friendly nod.

Yikes.

(On a weird shipper note, Eric, Aaron’s partner is not present.  Instead, it’s Daryl that assists him with lighting the bonfire.  There’s been talk…)

‘The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season’ will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 22.  The set will include many more deleted scenes, commentaries and other featurettes.

Season Eight kicks off on October 22, 2017 on AMC.
