archangel skydance

While out at San Diego Comic Con this past week, I was invited to the Skydance Interactive Gamer’s Lounge, where they were showing off their upcoming titles ‘Archangel’ and ‘PWND,’ and of course, I could not turn down an opportunity to give the titles a shot. ‘Archangel’ was using the Playstation VR headset, and before I review the actual game, I do want to comment that of all the VR apparatus’s I tried out last week, this one was definitely the lowest tier. While I could forgive the low-audio of the headset (which potentially could have been adjusted), the screen itself was just plain blurry, and the worker helping me said at the moment there was nothing they could do about it. That being said though, the game was a lot of fun. The PS4 motion controllers are used heavily for shooting, defending and smashing, which was a big step up from the other VR experiences I had where you only had a small touch panel next to your ear to control any movement. And the game itself has you riding around in this massive mech through a dilapidated city, shooting down enemy drones and tanks, in what was a very smooth and engaging experience. I’m hoping that maybe I just had a bad

I’m hoping that maybe I just had a bad headset because I would not mind playing the game on the PS4 VR system again.

The other game available to play was ‘PWND,’ which was a PC multiplayer shooter game, which was just wacky fun. It did not seem too different from other online multiplayer shooter games I have played, other than the goofy-ness of having to “PWN” your opponent by dancing on his corpse after you kill him in order to collect points, but that honestly was just part of the charm of the game. The action was very fast-paced which I liked, and did not invite people to camp out as is often a problem with shooters, which is another aspect I think they did well.

In the end though, while I would recommend both titles for more casual gamers like me, experienced gamers might not find too much to be excited about from ‘Archangel’ or ‘PWND.’
