Those hoping that ‘The Flash‘ would be hitting up the big screen in as a solo movie sooner than later are going to be disappointed as the entire movie is being rewritten. However, it is being geared towards telling one of the most interesting Flash stories of all time – “Flashpoint“. The news came out at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 that this 2011 epic comic series would be the inspiration for the film. It is fun to note that the original series was penned by Geoff Johns who now is in charge of the DCEU.
For those unfamiliar with the story, it was used as a huge reset button for the DC comic universe. Barry Allen, who Ezra Miller portrays in the ‘Justice League’ movies, runs so fast that he travels back in time. The singular change of saving his mother works as a butterfly effect and reimaged the entire line of DC Comics.
This idea was hinted at in the premiere for the third season of ‘The Flash’ television series though they weren’t able to pull it off.
With that in mind, we’re either going to be given a very solid story for ‘The Flash’ which does a unique way to re-tell his origin story by undoing it and redoing it, or they are going to use the movie to do a soft reset on the DCEU. Hopefully, it isn’t that latter route as if ‘Wonder Woman’ was any indication it would appear that the studio has finally found its stride.
It could allow them to stray from Snyder’s vision of the franchise which has been darker than fans and critics have wanted and also allows for Ben Affleck to be recast as Batman if that rumor which is flying around that the studio wants to proves true.
Are you happy to hear that “Flashpoint” is being adapted for the big screen? Do you think they can pull it off with such limited on screen character history? Will it be a standalone story or work to retool the DCEU on the whole? Share your thoughts below!
