star wars the last jedi

Now before anyone gets all that upset about the headline, it should be pointed out that while ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and the young ‘Han Solo’ movie may be skipping doing any Hall H panels at San Diego Comic Con this year, that does not mean that Lucasfilm itself will not be on the floor proper, doing its regular thing and showing off all of their amazing stuff.

According to a statement issued by Lucasfilm’s publicity unit when asked for confirmation on them not having panels this year by ‘San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog,‘ the company had the following to say:

“Our presence at SDCC 2017 will be focused on our booth on the convention floor, so there will be no press events or interview opportunities this year.”

Realistically, it makes a certain amount of sense for Lucasfilm to not have any panels this year, mainly because Disney has decided to have their D23 Expo the week immediately before SDCC, in which any big panels or announcements for these movies will be had, and there would no new information or announcements to make at SDCC one week later. Most likely D23 will be when Lucasfilm will unveil a new trailer for ‘The Last Jedi’ as well, so there truly would not be much left if they had decided to do a Hall H panel.

As for the young ‘Han Solo’ movie, at this point, with all the director strife and Ron Howard just getting onboard to take over, I do not think anyone really expected a panel, not this close to the turmoil. There is no way they would have even a teaser ready, especially if the rumors are true that Lucasfilm considered so much of what was shot to be unusable, and that’s a huge burden on Ron Howard and the cast to expect them to attend a panel and answer fan questions about what JUST happened when they are clearly still trying to sort it out themselves.

So there you go. We will still have some ‘Star Wars’ news coming to us by way of D23, there will be plenty of ‘Star Wars’ memerchandise nd a Lucasfilm presence at SDCC, and the world will go on without a big ‘Star Wars’ reveal at Hall H. I would like to think maybe this will cut down on the amount of people who will want to wait in the masssive, multi-day lines for Hall H this year, but I doubt it.
