Game of Thrones

One thing that ‘Game of Thrones‘ has proven time and time again is that love doesn’t last on the show and fans who have been shipping Gwendoline Christie’s Brienne, and Kristofer Hivju’s Tormund are bound to be in for a rude awakening. The showrunners know exactly how popular the pairing has become for fans and while that likely won’t lead to a “Red Wedding” for the two, death is in the air. In fact, in a recent interview showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David spoke specifically about the fan-fiction couple.

Fans who saw them meet at Castle Black when Sansa Start and Jon Snow finally reunited. Tormund had an instant attraction to the Lady of Tarth who, so far, hasn’t quite returned those affections.

The two showrunners had the following to say:

“Weiss: There was the episode where they’re all leaving Castle Black together and there’s a shot — it wasn’t scripted at all — of two of them on horseback and she looks at him and he smiles at her. It’s not something you could ever write. It’s just this moment where this guy is creeping out on her and he smiles in a way that makes her very uncomfortable and she just looks away. I saw it 150 times and every time it made me laugh; it’s purely the two of them.”

“Benioff: It inspires us because we need to kill one of them now because there can’t be a happy ending or any romantic connection on the show. But we’re not going to tell you which one.”

While Benioff most likely said this jokingly, it is ‘Game of Thrones’ and those unfamiliar with the books would have thought Ned Stark was the hero of the story in the first season. Besides the fact that the series likes to scar everyone who is a part of it, many still can’t help but feel that Brienne might have her eyes and heart set on Jaime Lannister.

Do you think that these two star-crossed lovers are every bound to have a relationship outside of the battlefield or will Brienne forever have her heart set above her station for a man that always pays his debts? Share your thoughts below!

We’ll be back in the ‘Game of Thrones’ on HBO this July 16th, 2017!
