In what is clearly one of the best retcons of the MCU, Tom Holland has recently come out and confirmed (thanks to source Kevin Feige) that Peter Parker has been in the MCU since all the way back in ‘Iron Man 2’!

For those of you who might be a little fuzzy on that movie, there was a scene where robots are attacking the Stark Expo in Queens, and one lands in front of a little kid in an Iron Man mask, targeting him because of said mask. The kid holds up his hand where he has a toy mimicking Iron Man’s Repulsor which he aims at the menacing robot, just as Iron Man lands beside the kid, strikes the same pose, blasts the robot for the kid, and takes off, remarking “thanks kid.” (you can check out the full video for yourself below).

There has long been a fan theory that this kid was Peter Parker, due to the fact that the Stark Expo took place in Queens, Parker’s hometown, plus the child’s courage under pressure, and because ‘Iron Man 2’ took place in 2010, and since we know Peter is a teenager in 2017 for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ this would make him about the right age to be that kid. And now, thanks to a recent interview Tom Holland had with Huffington Post, that rumor has been confirmed.

Here’s how the interrogation went down between the Huffington Post and Tom Holland:

Holland: “It is Peter Parker.”

HP: “It is?”

Holland: “I can confirm that, that is Peter Parker.”

HP: “No way, for sure?”

Holland: “I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”

True, there’s little doubt in my mind that this was never the actual intended case for that kid, but I love the idea that it works perfectly as a retcon to show a young Peter Parker in the MCU now, and give Peter some history with his new mentor, though I wonder if they’ll actually bring it up in ‘Homecoming.”
