With ‘The Gifted‘ and ‘Legion‘ both actively being worked on by Fox, one has to wonder if they will at all be related to the cinematic X-Men universe and producer Hutch Parker is now weighing in on it. We know that Marvel tried to create an expanded MCU when ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ was first introduced and as it fell to the wayside with the Netflix shows referencing the movies but not the other way around. So, how is Fox handling things? Sadly, they seem to be following Marvel’s lead here, and it doesn’t look as if these separate properties will have any continuity with one another.

According to Parker when asked about a connection between the films and shows:

“They’re more of their own thing. I think they’re designed really to, again, part of what I think has always been compelling about the X-Men Universe to me is, it is about individuals grappling with the degrees and ways in which they’re different from the society in which they live. That as an idea allows you, you can follow any one of countless characters in the universe and have a completely idiosyncratic experience, right? A completely unique story. I think what’s great about what they’ve been doing in TV is they’re finding those nooks and crannies and characters and new articulations or expressions of those issues and exploring them in a series format. So without being specifically tied, they’re another way in which the [X-Men] Universe is getting expanded.”

Fans of ‘Legion’ will likely be disappointed by this and while the trailer for ‘The Gifted’ namechecked both the X-Men and The Brotherhood, it didn’t appear that either was still around in that world either so this doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. There is always the chance that this will end up changing down the line as I suspect the studio will go the same route as DC and introduce both a televised and cinematic version of the characters.

Not my preferred way for this to play out but if Marvel Studios couldn’t make it work, what chance would Fox really have as outside of ‘Logan‘ and ‘Deadpool,’ they’ve had more misses with fans then hits in the past few years.

Are you sad that the studio isn’t planning on bringing the elements of ‘Legion’ or ‘The Gifted’ to the big screen or do you prefer your mutant universes to be separate? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
