Predator

Today we’ve got some good news and bad news for ‘The Predator.’ The bad news is that the release date has been pushed back from February of 2018 to August of 2018. While that is going to annoy those of us who have been looking forward to the film, the upside is that director Shane Black has shared that the film is using practical effects!

One might have to wonder if this has to do with any script re-writes after Arnold Schwarzenegger shared that he wasn’t happy with it. Of course, it could also have just been taken that he wasn’t happy with how little of a cameo he would have had and that is why he had passed on being a part of the film.

While this long of a delay could be a bad thing for movies, the new release month seems to hint that Fox is a huge fan of what they see so far. August tends to be one of the months where studios push their blockbusters as opposed to February which is usually a bit of a dead month. This new date could very well mean that the studio thinks Black is working magic here and that is something which fans of the Predator franchise have pretty much been hoping for since the original 1987 film as this species of hunters has fallen short for most fans ever since the iconic first look at them.

So in theory that might not have been bad news at all. Joining the good news we’ve just learned from Black that the film is set to be full of practical effects instead of pure CGI when creating the hunter-warriors.

While he didn’t include an image with his tweet we did learn this from the director:

A super tall actor in a Predator costume? Sounds good to me! For fans who get a bit annoyed at the overuse of CGI in modern cinematic storytelling, hearing that we’re getting practical effects is always a nice change of pace.

Are you looking forward to ‘The Predator’? Do you feel that this delay is good news or bad? What are your thoughts on the push for practical effects in the film? Share your thoughts below!

Barring further delays, ‘The Predator’ will be appearing on the big screen in August of 2018!
