Mark Millar is one of the most prolific comic book writers out there.  His work for Marvel has been so influential that it has been adapted to the big screen in hits like ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Logan’ and ‘Kick-Ass’.  In addition, his creator-owned projects ‘Wanted’ and ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ have also proven successful at the box office.  ‘Kingsman’ even has a sequel ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ due out this fall in September.  Now another of his projects is inching closer to coming to life.

Now another of his projects, ‘Chrononauts‘ is working its way towards a multiplex near you.  Chris Morgan, who wrote ‘Wanted’ and most of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise (including the current #1 film ‘The Fate of the Furious’), is attached to produce. Millar and Sean Gordon Murphy are executive-producing.  Now the film adaptation has found a screenwriter in Philip Gawthorne, who penned the recent film ‘Modern Life Is Rubbish’.

‘Chrononauts’ was a four-issue miniseries released in 2015, seemingly with the intention of it being adapted to film.  In fact, Millar revealed that the entire concept originated when Universal Studios asked him to come up with a film vehicle for Chris Pratt and Chris Evans.

When one fan speculated that the film should star Hugh Jackman and Ryan Gossling, Millar shot that down immediately:

Here is the concept behind the original comic:

Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly are two red-blooded American guys who also happen to be scientific geniuses. With the whole world watching, they embark on the world’s first time-travel experiment. But when their planned routine goes off-course, they’re left to fend for themselves – leading to an era-hopping adventure! From ancient Rome to the roaring twenties to the 1980s music scene, Corbin and Danny wreak havoc with the time stream, score front-row seats to the world’s wildest events, and get into hijinks with history’s scariest villains. But is it worth the price, when they have unresolved problems to address back home in the present day – and a team of angry bosses ready to do whatever it takes to rein them in? This story unites the talents of writer Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service) and artist Sean Gordon Murphy (Punk Rock Jesus) – two powerhouse figures in the comics world, whose combined forces must be seen to be believed.

Millar has previously stated that he had a series of stories in mind for ‘Chrononauts’ but so far has only delivered the one mini.

It’s unclear if they can actually get Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt to star, even though they inspired the characters in the original comic.  And it will obviously be years before this film begins production, considering a screenwriter has just been found.

Have you read the original comic?  Would you like to see Pratt and Hemsworth in the lead roles?  Are there any better candidates?
