With ‘The Conjuring’ having already spun off ‘Annabelle’ and the soon to be released ‘Annabelle: Creation,’ it seems that New Line Cinema is looking to continue that success by spinning off ‘The Nun‘ from ‘The Conjuring 2.’ She was added near the end of the production to the film and quickly became a fan favorite with how creepy her iconic look was.

Corin Hardy (‘The Hallow’) is set to direct (which may or may not cause a delay in the pre-production hell the reboot of ‘The Crow‘ is in) with a script by Gary Dauberman and James Wan. The studio has even given the film a release date of July 13th, 2017 which will make it the fifth film in the ever-growing Conjuring franchise unless a third movie which follows the Warrens in their ongoing paranormal investigations.

While there isn’t much news in casting so far, we have learned that Demián Bichir (‘Hateful Eight,”Machete Kills’) is the first star to be attached to the project. Not only that but he will be playing a priest that goes by the name of Father Burke. Burke was sent by his superiors in Rome to investigate a nun who died under mysterious circumstances which will likely end up being ‘The Nun’ or somehow related to her.

As this will likely be an origin story, it could even lead into ‘The Conjuring 2’ and show more of why she is haunting Vera Farmiga’s character throughout the movie. The studio has made it clear that they don’t mind retelling origin stories at all or expand upon plot threads which we’ve already seen. On the flipside we do know that a nun related to orphans being terrorized will be seen in ‘Annabelle: Creation’ and they might find a way to tie that here instead.

Are you looking forward to ‘The Nun?’ Will this origin story have the same impact as the demonic entity which we saw in ‘The Conjuring 2?’ Share your thoughts below!

‘The Nun’ is set for a theatrical release on Friday, July 13th, 2018!
